Local PPP Projects:
The piloting of potential PPP projects is one of the most important activities of PPPUE. Consultation and consensus building are at the centre of this as public authorities, civil society and the private sector together identify and agree upon pro-poor PPP projects.
More broadly the intent is to create "demonstration effects" so that more and

more PPP cases are initiated and the feasibility of PPP is impressed upon all stakeholders.
Significant contributions have been made in drinking water provision, urban sanitation - primarily solid waste management and public toilet provision, management of municipal facilities like markets, bus terminals, etc.
|
The poorer sections of society benefit from PPP projects in various ways:
- increased access to urban services like drinking water, public toilets, solid waste collection (at subsidized rates);
- employment (janitor work) in public toilets, bus terminals;
- enterprise creation through solid waste management contracts;
- economic benefits to rural areas from availability of markets for their products.
There are also indirect benefits such as time savings because of better access to services, improvements in the urban environment, and improved hygiene and sanitation leading to savings in health care expenses, etc.
