Support for Integrated Solid Waste Management of Kathmandu Valley
Public private partnership is emerging as a highly feasible and alternative development model. Since it is a relatively new approach for Nepal, technical backstopping is required at various stages of the project development. Thus, Public-Private Partnerships for Urban Environment (PPPUE) provides various types of supports such as in-house technical backstopping and expert's services through local and international consultants to the central/local government, private sector and community.
Ministry of Local Development (MoLD) set off integrated Solid Waste Management initiatives to manage the entire waste of Kathmandu Valley. To support the mission of MoLD, the Government has formed a High Level Committee under the Chairmanship of National Planning Commission member with representation from various government entities. The committee will develop a sustainable solid waste management under PPP arrangement. In this effort, PPPUE is supporting high level committee with three expert's services in preparing necessary documents and other technical support during PPP procurement process.
In the same context, Solid Waste Management and Resource Mobilization Centre (SWM&RMC) and PPPUE jointly organized an interaction program on “Overview on Financing Solid Waste Management through Carbon Financing: Strategies and Examples (Experience of Dhaka, Bangladesh)”. The programme sought to educate and share experiences on financing municipal waste management using carbon financing.
